Peter Hughes (born 20 May 1922) is an English actor with extensive film, television, and theatre experience. In the 1950s he was a stalwart of the Richmond Theatre repertory company with actress Anne Ridler. He played a recurring role as a bank manager in the BBC television series Bergerac and he played General Franco in Alan Parker's film adaptation of Evita. Other notable roles include that of a policeman in the John Boorman movie Hope and Glory (1987), and as the P&O manager in David Lean's A Passage to India (1984). He also appeared in An Englishman's Castle (1978), a serial of alternative history in which the Nazis have won the second world war.
Hughes is a coach at Ealing cricket club. He is married to Erica; their daughter Bettany is a historian and their son Simon is a cricketer and journalist.
